Preserving Heritage. Building Opportunity.
A traditional institution mobilising the people of Osu — especially the youth — for service, cultural preservation, skills development, and community transformation.
What Is The Asafo
Historically, the Asafo served as the community's defence, mobilisation, and service institution — the shield and the voice of Osu. Today, under the presidency of Professor Nii Nortey Owuo IV of the Osu Stool Council, that mission endures. We mobilise the people of Osu for community development, cultural preservation, youth empowerment, and economic opportunity.
"The Asafo protected Osu yesterday. The Asafo develops Osu today. The Asafo prepares Osu for tomorrow."
Our Focus Areas
Our mission spans culture, language, skills, sports, enterprise, and community service — because a community is only as strong as all its parts.
Celebrating and preserving the traditions, festivals, history, and values of the Osu people — rooted in Ga Dangme heritage.
The Ga language is endangered. We are committed to reversing this through education, digital archiving, and community engagement.
Digital skills, TVET, apprenticeships, and career pathways equipping Osu youth with tools to earn and lead in the modern economy.
Osu has a proud boxing heritage. We are reviving it — alongside football, fitness, and discipline programmes for young people.
Business training, market access, and livelihoods support for families, traders, and small business owners across Osu.
Clean-up exercises, community improvement projects, and volunteerism — mobilising residents to own our shared spaces.
The North Star
We are not merely managing an institution. We are building toward a future — one where Osu is a model of what cultural pride and economic opportunity can create together.
Culture is honoured and actively practised
The Ga language is spoken by a new generation
Youth have skills, credentials, and livelihoods
Sports and discipline build character in young people
Entrepreneurship flourishes across every family
Opportunities exist locally — right here in Osu
Partnerships
The Osu Asafo cannot do this alone — nor should it. We actively seek partners who share our commitment to community development, cultural preservation, and economic opportunity.
Development banks, bilateral donors, UN agencies, and foundations working in Ghana and West Africa.
Civil society organisations with programmes in education, livelihoods, youth development, and cultural heritage.
Academic and vocational institutions that can extend programmes into Osu through curriculum and placement partnerships.
Ga diaspora communities and global Osu networks who wish to invest in and contribute to the community.
